Brief description of research project for which grant was awarded: |
The project had two main objectives. Firstly, it aimed at re-examining the relationship between central bank independence and inflation in a comprehensive sample of countries, considering today's inflationary surge in both advanced and developing economies. To do so, the first part of the project required the update of an index of central bank independence, covering 154 countries from 1972 to 2017. Secondly, the project aimed to hire a research assistant to digitalize more than 2,500 central bank legislations, creating a dedicated website hosting all the data and legislation utilized for the project. |
Brief description of results of research project: |
Thanks to the 2022/23 Trinity Research in Social Sciences (TRiSS) Academic Research Fellowships, I managed to complete the data collection, run the empirical analysis, write a first draft of the paper, and present it at various conferences and invited seminars. The paper will be presented at an international workshop in September, and I will release it in a working paper format by the end of February 2024. The TRiSS Academic Research Fellowships 2022/23 funding is acknowledged. |

An additional research assistant with experience in web design helped me to create the structure of the website which will be used for the upload of the more than 2,500 central bank legislation constituting my database (See a screenshot of the preliminary version of the website below) |
